Asus ROG Phone 6 Specifications and features
ROG Phone 6 & 6 Pro
ROG Phone 6 Pro and ROG Phone 6 Pro are high-end smartphones. This is evident in the top-ofthe-line specs on both phones.
The main upgrade for most people is to move to the Snapdragon 8+ Generation 1 chipsets on both phones. This is a significant upgrade over the Snapdragon 888+ in ROG Phone 5 Series. This is a significant improvement in performance and power efficiency.
On the ROG Phone 6, it’s available with either 12- or 16GB DDR5 RAM, but the Pro has only 18GB. Dual SIM phones are available, but they do not support expandable storage. You will have to settle for 256/512GB on the 6 and 512GB on 6 Pro.
The ROG Phone 6
The phones have the same 6.78in FHD+ (2448×108080) AMOLED display. However, the refresh rate now is 165Hz. This is an increase from the ROG Phone 5 Series’ 144Hz refresh rate and joins the 7 Pro to be the highest-refreshing phones available. It retains the same 360Hz touch sampling speed – which is much lower than what you will find on Nubia phones.
Gaming on a dynamic display can affect battery life. However, Asus has kept the same 6,000mAh cell. The jump from 144Hz up to 165Hz does not have any effect on the exceptional battery life in the ROG Phone 5s PRO. The box also includes a 65W charger.
Both the 6 Pro and ROG Phone 6 have identical camera configurations. This means that the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro have identical camera setups. This latter can be used to unlock your face, but most people will use the under-display fingerprint scanner instead.
Apart from the additional RAM, the Pro has the secondary ROG Vision display at the back. This display can be used to show battery percentage, incoming call information and details about accessories that you have connected. It cannot display your notifications, unlike the Galaxy Z flip 3 external screen. The logo is just illuminated by RGB lighting at the same place on the regular phone.
The devices ship with Android 12. However, Asus has added its usual range gamer-specific software tweaks. It commits to only two major Android updates and two year’s worth of security updates. This suggests that it will get Android 13 as well as one additional.
The 6 and 6 Pro weigh 228g each, making them among the most heavy handsets available. You can increase this by adding a variety of accessories such as the AeroActive Cooler and Kunai 3 gamepad. These accessories are optional and must be purchased separately.
ROG Phone 6D & 6D Ultimate
The 6D and 6D Ultimate share many similarities with the 6 Pro and 6 Pro. What’s the difference?
Two key differences are worth highlighting. However, only one applies to both phones. The 6D and 6D Ultra are powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity9000+ chipset. This is in contrast to the Qualcomm Snapdragon8+ Gen 1. MediaTek’s most powerful chipset is the 9000+, but it remains to see how this will impact performance and power efficiency. The latter is a strength of the 8+ Generation 1.
Asus combines it with up to 16GB RAM on both phones with no option for the additional 18GB on the 6 Pro. It does so by using the faster DDR5X standard. This means that performance will likely be better than it is now.
Asus had previously stated that the 6D Ultimate would have a new cooling system, “that allows airflow like no ROG Phone before”. This is done via a flap at the back of your phone, which Asus calls an ‘Aeroactive Portal.’ The AeroActive Cooler 6, which is only included in the box, automatically opens to improve heat dissipation. This cooler is up to 20% more efficient than the one that came with it. This is particularly important for long gaming sessions.
Asus claims that the portal can withstand more than 40,000 openings and closings. It also features fall detection and a cleaning mode. Both phones have IPX4 splash resistance.
The 6D regular continues to use the same cooling system as the 6 Pro and 6 but it’s not an issue. It was already very effective. All phones are compatible with the AeroActive Cooler 6 or Kunai 3 Gamepad.
The 6D Ultimate has the secondary ROG vision display, but it is not available on all other phones. The standard ROG Phone 6 has the same RGB logo as the regular 6D, but with a RGB logo.
Other than that, all other information regarding the 6 and 6 Pro applies.
